These bushfires in Victoria have been crazy. Every one knows people or people that know people who have died. My flat mates best man lost his 2 sisters. And my other flatmates sister’s bestfriend lost her whole family. That is just two stories I know of. I can not fathom the pain some people would be feeling right now. Just the thought of people I love burning brings tears to my eyes. I am sorry to be so harsh but that is the reality. We have been praying together each night. I guess just to sit with each other and God in the shock of it all. Apparently the fire just moved so so quick and did all the things it was expected not to do.
{February 10, 2009} Fire descends
I was just thinking today about you and those buhfires and if you or Dave knew anyone that was affected. It’s so awful.
Hi Gem
Don’t know your email address so have dumped all of this in here so you know. Chris [of Wheelers & Dealers] is an old friend. So horrible. So hard to fathom.

Bushfire Relief Ceili
Celtic roots band Wheelers and Dealers together with Irish dance veterans Margaret and Bill Winnett will host an Irish ceili as a fundraiser for victims of the Victorian bushfires.
The dance will be held at Jack Thompson’s Hotel Gearin in Katoomba, Blue Mountains NSW. The Gearin will also contribute to our fundraising.
No previous dance experience necessary as all dances will be taught and called. But we hope to see experienced dancers as well for the set dances and to show the rest of us how good it can be when you know how!
Please pass the word around, we want our Victorian friends to know that we’re thinking of them.
These fires have shocked the whole country but Victorians are so much closer to it all. It is horrific to think what those people went through and for those who knew and loved them left behind. Having known someone well who was severely burnt and how awful that was, it makes me shudder too.
Gem, call me sometime. I don’t have your new phone number yet.
