I was reading a book the other day and it said:-
“The truth is like a multi faceated diamond. Too brilliant, too exquisite, to be fully illuminated by a single source of light.”
I loved that. I thought ”yes,” there is a truth but we need a range of perspectives to reveal it and even then, we might not have grasped it all.
He also said “to live with the questions is far more important than finding the right answers.”
This was comforting in the midst of all my questions. Why is the world like it is? Why are we here? Why is there injustice? Why do I feel lonely and loved at the same time? Why am I both scared and excited? I could go on forever with all my unanswered questions. It was good to be reminded that through them I will find life.
Oh no. My computer broke down today. Now I have to work on the computers down stairs in the office. This is bad because the computers downstairs have access to internet and now I can be easily distracted by blogs and emails. Thanks heaps to David!!! who managed to atleast retrieve all the work I had done on my assignments, even though computer was what I will call broken. What a relief that was!!! Apparently I am a nerd who as used linnex (that is probably spelt wrong).
Anyhow now I am blogging I may aswell share my favourite moments from Bob Dylan.
1) Spirit on the Water – I love that song and it was great that he sung it because before the concert David and I were walking around the streets singing lines from Bob Dylan that we knew. Our little Baileys bottles were our microphones. Anyhow one of my favourite lines to sing was ”you do good all day and then you do wrong all night.” From spirit on the water anyone who doesn’t know.
2)Just Like a Woman- One of the few songs from his past that I actually recognised. He totally remixed it, so music was real different but the words still the same. I love that song. “She tastes just like a woman, yes she does, she aches just like a woman, yes she does, she makes love just like a woman, yes she does, but breaks just like a little girl.”
3) Forget name of song but it is again for modern times. Fav line is “I’m still burning, still yearning.”
4) The band sounded really good and Bob Dylan’s harmonica sounded amazing and on the fashion side of things he looked very cool.
5) David and I ditched our seats for a little while and found a place above the other seats to have a boogie. Shame about the lady that came and told us to go back to our seats.
6) There was a line from a song that I had not heard that said, “we eat and we drink and we feel and we think and we all wear the same thorny crown. “
7) He ended with a song in which the chorus repeated “I believe in you.” I am sure that he was talking about God.
There was a couple I was talking to in the line for drinks and they would have been disappointed with these last two songs I mentioned because they told me how much they hoped Bob Dylan would not sing any crap from his religious years but I thought these songs were beautiful.
Reading Steve’s Blog reminded me of another great moment. The introduction of Bob Dylan. Check out Steve’s blog for more info.
9) Going to the Rod Laver Arena for the first time.
One major disappointment- He did not sing “Workin’ Man Blues.” I had thought he would given how much it shines in Modern Times.
I think my politics teacher has a wierd fascination with the way that the Labor party members look. Last week it was Kevin, this week he says ”someone should really tell Peter Garret that the Chemotherapy look is out.” He is starting to remind me of the American press with Hilary Clinton. I am writing a paper on the characteristics of the Labor Party. I am wondering whether Julia Gillard’s hair and Wayne Swan’s weight is worth a mention. It is lucky that my teacher manages to be a bit balanced and diplomatic and interesting in other ways. I really like politics. It is a shame that a politicians life style is so crap. Oh well if I don’t find a man there might be a benefit.
Introduction to Australian Politics. This is my new subject. I had a really fascinating week this week. What i learnt from my new eccentric (at best) teacher is that Kevin Rudd looks like a pasty vegetarian. Yes that is right not my words but his. Kevin Rudd looks like a vegetarian. “You know that look” he says, “all white and pasty, like a vegetarian” This is my teachers opinion. So my friends, why bother dressing up in the morning,we all just look like shit anyway.
I feel really moved. One of the women from the writing group here at Urban Seed gave me some her old poetry. Through her poetry she has shared with me some of her journey from a dark place to a place of hope. I want to write it so I do not forget.
A Stanza from “Maintaining Abuse”
I thought and I thougth and I thought of the dole
Of sitting on the street before and empty bowl
I felt what it meas to be down ans destitute
and why so many women become prostitutes.
From “Dear God”
Body language, feeling words, let me integrate all
And speak to show Your light which inside me glows
With love form your creation let me inspire confidence
Beautiful poetry huh? And for the visual arts. Missing Monday Club, I went to community art group today. It is at a place on the outskirts of Melbourne city. This group is not Urabn Seed. It is run by another group. (When I was at the UNOH conference I was invited along by some people). I had a nice time painting and connecting with what some other Melbourne christian groups are doing. They were really fun people.
So I heard you all think I am becoming a Christian missionary who hands out bibles to orphans. Ha Ha very funny. I hate blogs it is really hard to express oneself. I was just really inspired at the conferance to try and offer to people what has really brought good things to my life and other people’s life, if you know what I mean. I am here for a formation experience so why not try new things if I get the chance. So far I have not converted anyone but I am having some wonderful experiences. Tonight Marcus and I took a group of school students around for a city/credo walk. At the end this kid said “like I used to like be like you know like afraid of homeless people or something like but you guys have like made me like wanna help them.” Then the whole class clapped. It was beautiful. Also Naomi, Dave and I met this guy Craig the other night who was sleeping rough and we invited him back to our place for dinner and coffee and cigarettes. He was really cool he did heaps of rhyme and stuff. Some of it was actually really good but the line I liked best went something like “these people they invited me back to their house, no one’s every treated me so grouse.” Cute. I played some Tupac and he and I rapped together. We said he should come to Naomi’s writing group. I hope he does. I would have given him my new bible but he already had one.
